The Trifid Nebula in the constellation Sagittarius is the subject of this jewel-toned blue and red impressionistic painting.
Trifid–an emission nebula–is also known as Messier 20 (M20), NGC 6514, and Sharpless 30. It was discovered on June 5, 1764, by Charles Messier and is located 9,000 light-years from Earth. Its name refers to its three-lobed appearance.
This nebula had a guest-starring role in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “The Alternative Factor”. 🖖🏻
